Experience Balance and Wellness with Tai Chi Chuan

Our classes focus on gentle movements that enhance balance, flexibility, and mental clarity, making tai chi chuan an ideal practice for healthy aging, stress reduction, and overall well-being.

We love the class! (Sifu Adam) is a great instructor, caring and humorous. Our classmates were very welcoming also. If you are thinking of taking a martial arts class, and don't feel like your are "athletic", you can do this class!

What Students Will Learn

The core of our Tai Chi Chuan class is the long form of old Yang-style tai chi chuan. The 181 movements of the form provide students with a deep, comprehensive practice rooted in tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Alongside this foundational form, we incorporate elements of Hsing-i chuan—including the animal forms and elements—as well as baguazhang, offering students a well-rounded martial arts experience.

What sets our program apart is our emphasis on practical self-defense applications of the Tai Chi Chuan form. Rather than focusing purely on the meditative or health aspects, we teach students how to use tai chi movements effectively for personal protection and real-world situations. This holistic approach ensures that students not only develop physical balance and mental clarity, but also gain practical skills that can be applied for self-protection.

Class Structure

Students can expect the following from a class:

  1. Warm-ups
  2. Form review
  3. Applications of certain movements from the forms
  4. Periodic weapons instruction

Class Schedule

Our tai chi chuan classes are held on Tuesday evenings at the Metamora Park District office on the historic Metamora square.
