Designed for advanced students with at least one stripe on their white belt who are ready to push their skills further, this class focuses on both competition training and weapons training.
The competition aspect of this class offers a challenging environment for students looking to compete with their martial arts training. Athletes in this class are eligible to compete in forms, sparring, and weapons,
In addition to preparing for tournaments, students may also explore kobudo (weapons) not covered in the core curriculum, expanding their karate knowledge and skill set. This class provides an opportunity to learn new aspects of karate, helping students grow as martial artists while enhancing their physical conditioning and strategic thinking.

Our specialty karate classes are held on Wednesday evenings only at the Metamora Park District office on the historic Metamora square.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can my student join this class?
Students must have at least 1 stripe on their white belt to compete. That’s because our first form isn’t taught until students have 1 stripe.
Will I need to purchase equipment for a competition?
It depends.
If your student is competing only in forms, probably not.
If they’re competing in sparring or weapons, then yes. This blog talks about the equipment you’ll likely need.
Each competition is unique in the equipment they require, but most are pretty similar.
