ICC students and families will have a unique opportunity to see a brief martial arts demonstration at ICC’s International Fair this Saturday, April 13.
Of course, this is a fantastic opportunity to teach others a little bit about Okinawan traditions.
From 12:40-12:55, I will discuss Okinawan karate, kobudo and breaking.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how the bo (staff) was used among Okinawan farmers, and how they adapted the instrument into a weapon during the 17th century after the Okinawan king banned all weapons on the island.
I will also be bringing multiple boards for attendees to break, showing them it can be done with the right skill, focus and technique. Fair-goers will also be able to break boards over my arms and legs.
If you are a Metamora Martial Arts alum, drop by and say hey!
The International Fair celebrates international students’ cultures. The event will be hosted in Illinois Central College’s East Peoria campus cafeteria. Cost for admission is a $2 donation. Children 12 and under are free.
